Starting in 2027, all employers with at least one employee in the State of Maryland will be required to comply with the new Paid Family and Medical Leave (PFML) law. This important regulation introduces new responsibilities, and key decisions, for businesses of all sizes.

Employers will have the option to either participate in the State of Maryland’s PFML program or opt out and select a private insurance provider. A critical decision window between September 1 and November 15, 2026 will require employers to submit a Declaration of Intent if choosing a private plan.
